Cardan Shaft

Cardan shaft also refer to as propeller shafts with Universal joint shaft is the shaft with integrated joints. It acts as an intermediate between the driving and the driven shaft that are not aligned on the same axis transferring the running torque smoothly. Cardan shafts transmit rotary motion and torques via an articulated shaft Assembly.
Cardan shaft is made up of one or more hollow shafts, connected with cardan joints also called as universal joints at the Shaft flanges. The universal Joint comprises a central crosspiece with two crossed pairs of bearing journals that Fit Into cross holes in the fork-like shaft flanges to create a movable connection. Sometimes elastic discs (joint discs/coupling flex discs) are used instead of the crossed joint when only low torques is being transmitted.
